Pearl’s house

Completed 2024

This mid-century home with exposed cedar beams and high level windows was in need of a comprehensive update. With plenty of internal space and great under floor access we have been able to plan this build with a staged approach allowing for elements to be completed one at a time while not hindering future works.

The first phase of this project was to consolidate the living area and establish a new kitchen which took advantage of the generous views to the greenway and parkland beyond.

Being part of a open-plan living area it was important that the appliances were integrated where possible, and that the materials and style utilised we’re sympathetic to the existing style of the house. This included working around the exposed structure and even including an existing post into the design of the island bench.

Using a limited palette of warm spotted gum panelling, stainless steel and matte-black powdercoat the finished product is refined to the point of simplicity, but detailed finely at every corner. The grain of the rotary cut ply sits like artwork, the stainless steel softly reflecting, and the legs of the island lifting it from monolithic to lightness.
